Shop Preview: Whimsical Kiddo

I love cutesy clothes for women (novelty prints, frilly things, etc.), but could never really pull them off. That's why it's so much fun to shop for and dress my gal in vintage! There are so many fun prints and designs for the babes.

 Here are a few of my favorites, coming to the shop this week!

A Smile for Your Weekend (and a little shop preview!)

Aurora knows what the camera does now.  For a while, she used to pose for it, and then she started getting too antsy, but she's come back around to the posing phase--which I, of course, LOVE.

She posed for these photos before we went out for a family picnic/concert in the park on Thursday night.  I found this little cotton lamb shirt (which I think is a baby dress, actually) this week. I'm in love with it, but it won't fit her much longer...so into the shop it shall go!

What Aurora Wore: The Vintage Romper

There are few things cuter than a vintage romper. I've been lucky to find some to put in the shop this summer (they sold quickly!), but of course, I had to keep some for Aurora!  I had to keep this stripey little number because of its fun details:  buttons down the front, eyelet trim, and a waist tie.

Aurora is our little monkey lately...once she figured out she could climb on a chair, it was all over. Now she climbs on every chair, sofa, and bed in sight!  She gets a very proud look on her face when she sits down in a chair next to one of us.  She knows it means she's a big girl.

True to her monkey form, less than an hour after taking these photos, Aurora was having a snack:  some goldfish crackers, her milk, and a banana.  She decided it would be fun to squish the banana in her hands and rub it into her hair (even though she just had a shower this morning!):

She's so funny that I couldn't even be mad at her.  But she definitely didn't like it when I took a vigorous wet washcloth to her whole head!  I hope she learned her lesson.

The sweet little romper was all covered in banana too and went straight in the wash.  I'm saving it because I think Lyla will look great in it next summer! :)

Something Old, Something New

Six months in and I STILL have barely purchased a stitch of clothing for Lyla.  Her wardrobe is mix of hand-me-downs, gifts and vintage.  I love taking the eclectic mix of clothing and mixing them together to create fun new outfits for her.  I try to never pair the same two pieces together--just for a fun challenge.  I especially love when I can pair something vintage with a modern piece (like the skinny jeans pictured here)!

This little vintage jacket is ah-mazing.  It has the look of a denim jacket but it is more of a chambray material.  I love the red contrast stitching and red buttons.  And guess what?  It will be for sale in the shop soon!  (This is the first time Lyla wore it and it was already a bit small.  Feel free to email us if you're interested in purchasing it!  It will be priced at $16 plus shipping and fits like a size 3 months or so.) And the little shoes??  They were handmade by a family friend and I love how they are reminiscent of TOMS but with a fun mix of printed velour and striped fabrics.

Oh Boy(s)!

Ask anyone who runs a vintage kiddo clothes shop:  cute, fun vintage girl clothes are just easier to come by.  Our shop definitely has more baby girl clothes than boy clothes. Almost every pregnant mama I know, prior to finding out the baby's gender, has made mention of the fact that dressing a girl is "so much more fun" than a boy.   Maybe because boys' clothes tend towards basics.  They're made with dirt in mind. But basics don't have to be boring!

I found a great little haul of boys' stuff at the thrift yesterday, and can't wait to put them in the shop!  Mamas of little guys, check out these fun pieces!  I'm especially partial to the bright green flared overalls with the hand stitched train (The wheels are individual buttons! It's amazing!).

Long and lean.  She needs 18 months for most clothes in terms of length, but they are too big on her belly most of the time!

Aurora is sweet and loving and playful and very talkative.  She has taken only three steps on her own so far.  She loves animals and babies and music and dancing.  She also loves just about every kind of food, but especially sweets and fruit (just like mama!).

And she's also just awake from her nap, so I must be off!

For Your Little Easter Bunny

As a kid Easter was always one of my favorite holidays.  Not only was there Easter morning--with baskets full of fake grass, malted milk eggs, wiffle ball sets and dressing up in our pretty ruffled dresses and sun hats for church but there was that celebration leading up to Easter where my grandma would have an Easter egg hunt.  We'd run around the yard hunting for fluorescent colored plastic eggs with foil wrapped candy treats inside.
We've stocked the Miskabelly shop with some lovely little spring dresses for your little one to wear on Easter (which I hope to feature later this week--and maybe even show a few more flashback photos of Amanda and I in some of our special Easter outfits!).  But we also have some adorable bunny-themed frocks that would be perfect for looking festive at an Easter egg hunt.

Spring Cleaning SALE!

Sleepy Bear

Nothing is cuter than a sleep-eyed, bed-headed baby.
Here is my sleepy baby in a super-soft vintage layette.

I found this little nightie while thrifting for Miskabelly shop and just couldn't let it go.  What makes it even sweeter?  Lyla matches this adorable vintage bear piggy bank (or I guess it would just be "bear bank" but that sounded weird...) that Amanda got me for my baby shower.  

I am so smitten with my little sleepy bear.

My Vintage Baby 2

So...Lyla is growing like a weed!  This little lady has gone from lean and lanky to round and chubby.  She finally has some little rolls of pudge--and the plumpest cheeks that I can"t help but pinch every time she smiles!  We finally had to retire most of her newborn size clothes *tear* but it's been fun to incorporate some new things into her wardrobe that didn't fit before--including some vintage goodies!

This little vintage blouse is for sale on Miskabelly!  It has the sweetest ruffled collar and buttons up the back.  Perfect for spring!

My Vintage (Almost) Toddler and an Update

 Oh, hey, Amanda here.  It's been so long since I've blogged and that's because we're keeping busy with Etsy business and birthday planning!   I can hardly believe that Aurora is going to be one year old on February 11th.

Weight update (Week 11 on Weight Watchers):  I'm still down 12 pounds. I keep fluctuating--snowy weather is not conducive to exercise, but it's extremely conducive to comfort food.  The heat is on, since I turn 29 on February 15th.  I am hardcore On Plan (Weight Watchers) the next two weeks, and will keep you updated here on the blog.  You can also see some of my recent outfit posts on the Miskabelle blog, since it was one of my 2011 goals to get dressed and feel like a hot mama at least a few times a week. I'm feeling good, but I want to feel great.  It's time.  I deserve it.

I'm not sure I'll be able to think of Aurora as a toddler until she's really walking and talking up a storm (though she's saying a lot these days:  hey, hi, mama, dadda, UP!, nana (banana), uh oh, malyn and mmmMA (Madelyn and Emma, her big sisters), and THIS), but all of those baby books consider the second year of life the beginning of toddler-dom.  She's definitely toddling around, but not walking yet.  Just a cruiser. She also tried to sing sometimes, which is the cutest thing ever--unless you count her dancing, which is equally cute.

Yesterday was a vintage outfit day for my babe, so I wanted to share it with you all.  This is one of my favorite vintage dress finds in a while, a C.I. Castro layer dress.  Aurora was the height of cuteness (even if she wouldn't let me get a really clear shot). She pushed the sewing chair all the way along the wall.

 And I'll leave you with another favorite recent shot of Aurora and Daddy--she was stroking his hair while she had her evening bottle.  It was the sweetest thing ever.

I could not love these two more if I tried.  I feel like the luckiest gal in the world.
